All the candidates must look at the CLAT eligibility criteria 2023 before applying for CLAT 2023. When you read the CLAT eligibility criteria, you will get details about the qualifying exam, minimum qualifying marks, reservation policy and much more. This article will look at the detailed CLAT eligibility criteria for 2023.

Why is it essential to check CLAT Eligibility Criteria?

Checking the eligibility criteria is considered very important. But why is it so?

CLAT eligibility criteria provide various aspects that a candidate must fulfil to be able to sit for the CLAT exam. If the candidate fails to meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will not be granted admission. Even if you get a good CLAT score, you won’t be considered for the exam. CLAT score only helps you get provisional admission to Law schools. The last stage of the admission process to confirm admission is document verification. At this stage, the candidate is expected to present evidence to prove his/her claims. If the documents do not provide sound clarity on whether the candidate has fulfilled the eligibility criteria or not, then the admission is cancelled. So, the candidate’s first step while appearing for the CLAT exam should be to check the CLAT eligibility criteria.

CLAT Eligibility Criteria 2023: Age Limit

The CLAT only requires you to get a minimum score in the qualifying examination. Other than that, there used to be an age limit for CLAT. But now, the Consortium has removed the upper age limit for appearing for the CLAT 2023. Candidates who fulfil the other eligibility criteria can sit for the exam regardless of age. This applies to both CLAT UG 2023 and CLAT PG 2023.

CLAT 2023 Score Tie Breaker

Almost 77,000 candidates will sit for the CLAT 2023 exam. Due to a large number of aspirants, there are chances that two or more candidates get the same CLAT score. So, if two or more candidates fulfil the CLAT eligibility criteria and get the same CLAT score, which must be granted admission and on what basis?

Considering the possibility of a tie in the CLAT score, the Consortium has suggested a mechanism.

CLAT UG Tie Breaker

If two or more candidates get the same CLAT UG score,

  1. The one with higher marks in legal aptitude will be considered for admission.
  2. If the tie persists, the older candidate gets the seat.
  3. The last resort is to go for a computerised drawing of lots.

That’s how you break the score tie for CLAT undergraduate. The process of tie-breaking is slightly different in the case of CLAT postgraduate.

CLAT PG Tie Breaker

If two or more candidates get the same CLAT PG score,

  1. The elder candidate receives the seat.
  2. Next computerised system to draw lots is employed.

These are the criteria one must fulfil to apply for CLAT 2023 and get admission through CLAT 2023. Read the CLAT eligibility criteria 2023 carefully.
